Well this was a bit of a surprise.

Nintendo recently announced on their official twitter that the NES is coming back in all its retro glory.  Starting on November 11th, fans will be able to purchase the mini NES Classic Edition.  This console is a plug-and-play replica of the original Nintendo Entertainment System and comes with 30 NES games already loaded onto it.  These games are listed as follows:

  • Balloon Fight
  • BUBBLE BOBBLE
  • Castlevania
  • Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest
  • Donkey Kong
  • Donkey Kong Jr.
  • DOUBLE DRAGON II: THE REVENGE
  • Dr. Mario
  • FINAL FANTASY
  • Excitebike
  • Galaga
  • GHOSTS ‘N GOBLINS
  • GRADIUS
  • Ice Climber
  • Kid Icarus
  • Kirby’s Adventure
  • Mario Bros.
  • MEGA MAN 2
  • Metroid
  • NINJA GAIDEN
  • PAC-MAN
  • Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream
  • StarTropics
  • SUPER C
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • TECMO BOWL
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

New NES controllers are being created that connect to the system via the same port used on Wii controllers.  This means you can use the NES controllers to play virtual console games on your Wii/Wii U or use the Classic Controller on your Wii/Wii U to play retro games on the mini NES.  The system istself connects to the TV using an HDMI cable, so you’ll be able to play your games in glorious High Definition.  The system is expected to be $59.99 and the controllers will be $9.99.  This will definitely be great for long time fans of Nintendo or those interested in playing some of the most revered titles in gaming.  Thanks for reading!
