Honestly, a part of me is extremely surprised typing this article right now. At Sonic’s 25th Anniversary celebration SEGA just recently confirmed the Blue Blur’s next title. Rather than taking a step forward it seems the company wants to take a few steps back, and that’s not a bad thing. The newly confirmed title is called “Sonic Mania” and will let both fans and newcomers to the series experience a classic Sonic experience complete with sprite style graphics and loads of nostalgia. The game is currently confirmed to release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Interestingly enough the release date is Spring 2017 but there has been no confirmation that a version is in development for Nintendo’s NX, which is releasing around the same time.
Sonic will not be the only playable character either as Knuckles and Tails will also be making active appearances. The game is confirmed to contain revamped versions of many classic sonic levels as well, so you’ll be able to get a taste of both old and new once it releases. Whatever the case, this Sonic game looks like it’s going to give many fans the classic Sonic experience they’ve been asking for and add a new branch in the hedgehog’s legacy.
