Sonic Boom Fire & Ice is the 3rd game under the Sonic Boom name and the second game to be made by Sanzaru Games. Releasing only for the 3DS this time around, and with a lot more development time, people had a bit more hope this time that it would be a good game. Surprisingly, it actually is!

The main changes to the game from Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal are very plentiful. Some changes include a better moveset for the cast, the addition of Amy as a playable character, the ability to be in fire or ice mode, which gets you through certain obstacles, and some more gameplay styles such as races or hovercraft missions.

If you are unfamiliar with Shattered Crystal, the previous Sonic Boom game, it is very similar to this game, except the gameplay was a lot slower, had poor level design and progressing through the game was a nightmare.

Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice is a fast paced 2D platformer with the ability to switch between 5 characters (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Sticks) and the ability to switch between fire and ice. Each character has their own special abilities that can be activated by pressing the X button, Sonic can spin dash which is VERY important if you want to keep your speed up, Amy uses her hammer, Tails has a laser, and Sticks has her boomerang, and Knuckles can dig. The new fire and ice abilities allow the cast to go through certain obstacles very easily.

One reason why I think that this game is not only good, but very good is that the game has an amazing sense of speed, (if you play as Sonic) if you constantly spin dash, air dash, Enerbeam, and homing attack through the masterfully designed levels. The game may be somewhat short, but it does have replayability in the fact that it has lots of collectibles to grab. All of which have a bonus for collecting them, as well as going for the fastest times in a stage gives you a pitiful amount of currency that you can use for the races.

The game, graphically, looks pretty alright. It runs at the same frame rate for both 3D and non-3D and the 3D also looks great as well. Some textures look a tiny bit muddy on the character models and on parts of the landscape, but overall it looks decent. The game also sounds pretty good as well, the music is decent and the sound effects sound alright.

This game is very good and I definitely recommend giving it a try.
